This process can take between a week or to, to over a month. We will contact you as soon as we receive a response from your network provider, and we will follow up on your behalf if it takes longer than usual.
Please do not email us asking for updates. This will not speed up the process.
To change your tariff you need to submit a change application with Localvolts via the Talk to Localvolts section in our app.
You must provide the NMI, the old tariff and the new tariff. Once we have received your application to change, we will submit an application on your behalf with your network provider.
The tariff change process can take weeks to months to be processed by your network provider and in some cases might be refused. We will let you know as soon as we have a response from your network provider.
Once your application has been submitted, please do not follow up with emails. This will not speed up the process.
You can sign up by visiting the Localvolts website at localvolts.com and clicking completing the registration form. You will need your Medicare card for identification purposes and a your National Meter Identifier (NMI) which can be found on your existing electricity bill.
Localvolts will handle the transfer process for you once you complete the registration. You don’t need to contact your current provider – Localvolts will manage the switch as your new retailer. The premises must be connected to the electricity grid.
You can log into your account at market.localvolts.com or via the LOGIN link on the Localvolts website. This is where you access the marketplace to buy and sell electricity, examine your transactions, and manage your preferences.
Your National Meter Identifier (NMI) is a unique 10 or 11-digit number that identifies your electricity connection point. You can find it on your electricity bill, usually near your address or meter details. It may be labeled as ‘NMI’, ‘MIRN’, or ‘Connection Point’.
You can update your details through the Localvolts marketplace at market.localvolts.com where you can maintain your details, or contact Localvolts customer service.
What is a controlled load?
A controlled load is a special electricity tariff for high-energy appliances (like hot water systems, pool pumps, or underfloor heating) that are connected to a separate dedicated circuit from your main household wiring.
How is it charged?
Controlled load electricity is charged at a lower rate than your regular household usage, but power is only supplied for limited hours each day (typically 8-18 hours during off-peak times). You’ll see two separate charges on your bill:
Usage charge: Lower rate per kWh for the controlled load circuit
Supply charge: Small daily connection fee (a few cents per day) regardless of usage
The network provider determines when your controlled load operates, and you may also need a smart meter and separate wiring installed by an electrician.
If you or someone at your premises relies on life support equipment, it’s essential to register this with us. This option is available in our registration form, and should be done when you switch to Localvolts.
If you need to add life support to an existing Localvolts account, please contact us via [email protected].
Yes, you can leave Localvolts anytime without incurring any exit fees or penalties. Localvolts will terminate your matches to buy or sell energy that go beyond your departure date.
Contact your network provider to report any connection issues or outages affecting your electricity supply.
