A fairer way to deal with electricity

Localvolts is an electricity trading platform that gives you control over who you buy your electricity from and how much you pay. If you are generating your own electricity, then you can also control who you sell it to and for how much.

Getting started with Localvolts is easy. The first step is to sign up and create an account.

Creating your account

Navigate to to create your account. You will need to create a username, provide your name and phone number, and choose a password. (Please note that it is important to use your real name.) Once you have completed these fields, confirm that you have read the Localvolts Terms and Conditions, and then click “Register”. The Localvolts platform will now send you a verification code.

To ensure that every user on the Localvolts platform is a real person, we send everyone a verification code to the details that they have provided. Yours will be sent to you either by SMS or email.

Once you receive your code, enter it into the verification code field and click verify.

Note: Sometimes the verification code can take a few minutes to come through, depending on your email provider. If it doesn’t arrive after a few minutes, you can click the “Didn’t get your code, click here to resend it.” link.

Your dashboards

Once you have verified your email address, you will be asked to log in using the username or email and password that you created in the registration process. This will take you to the Localvolts “Market” dashboard where you will get an overview of activity in the Localvolts market.

Note: Once you have completed your facility setup (i.e. entered your properties and/or generators) the first page you see after login will be the “My Energy” screen where you will see an overview of your current position. (I.e. incoming vs outgoing in both $ and kWh)

The next items in the menu are “Buy Electricity”, “Sell Electricity” and “Facilities”. To buy or sell electricity you will need to register a facility. A facility is either a generator, or a property or sometimes both. The Localvolts system will automatically detect which is which, so the next step you need to take is to register your house or property as a facility.

Next step: Register your property and/or generator (facility).
